Wabi Sabi honors all things old, weathered, worn, imperfect and impermanent by finding the beauty and perfection in the imperfections. For instance, if you had a large vase with a big crack down the middle of it, a Japanese art museum would put the vase on a pedestal and shine a light on the crack. Or, they might fill the crack with 24k gold! When we practice Wabi Sabi Love we can begin to appreciate our own and everyone else’s imperfection.

TAKE THE WABI SABI APPROACH TO PLEASURE

There is now ample research proving that pleasure (and sex) not only reduces stress, it also improves our health, overall wellbeing and longevity.  This probably isn’t surprising and when was the last time you consciously added pleasure to your life?

The Wabi Sabi approach to pleasure doesn’t require much effort but rather small, simple actions. Begin by making a list of things that evoke pleasure in each of your senses and then promising yourself to take at least one pleasure break a day.

Here are a few of the ways I take quick, solo pleasure breaks:

I love the fragrance of scented candles as well as the warm, soft dancing of a flame, so I curl up in my favorite chair, light a candle and indulge for a few minutes with a piece for my favorite chili chocolates.

If I have had a particularly stressful day, I take a long, warm bath, soaking in my aromatherapy oils, surrounded by candles and soft music.

Or, if I want to pump up my energy, I put on a high energy, latin grooves CD of some of my favorite tunes, turn up the volume and dance like crazy.

It’s really quite simple…decide that for ten minutes each day for the next week you are going to schedule a pleasure break just for you, even it’s just making a cup of your favorite tea or stopping to literally smell the roses.

What if you made a date with your with your mate for a little Wabi Sabi sex?

Applying Wabi Sabi to your sex life means it’s ok that you’re too tired, too stressed or don’t have time, you just decide to do it anyway….even if nobody really wants too.

According to relationship guru, Alison Armstrong, just because you are not in the mood or feeling estranged or disconnected from your partner, doesn’t mean you can’t make the effort to reconnect and re-ignite the energizing, and life-giving forces of sex.  Like riding a bike, you’ll quickly get back in the groove.

When we allow ourselves to experience pleasure, we are relaxed and in the flow and it’s a zillion times easier to access our positive emotions. By taking the time to add pleasure to your life you will be calmer, happier, and more receptive to enjoying and receiving love at every level.  You learn to accept the flaws, imperfections, and limitations – as well as the gifts and blessings – that form your shared history as a couple.  Acceptance and its counterpart, understanding, are crucial to achieving relationship harmony.  It’s is sacred love, the highest form of love, and like most things worth striving for in life requires patience, commitment, personal responsibility, and practice.  Imagine how great you will feel when you know your partner loves all of you, all the time? Recent Study Shows Fiber Can Lower Your Risk Of Dying

By now most of us know that fiber is a good thing. Here is what it can do:

1. Improves digestion by adding stool bulk allowing your bowel movements to pass quickly and effectively.

2. Some fiber adds prebiotics adding good bacteria to your digestion.

3. It improves blood sugar control (this is important for those with or at-risk of diabetes)

4. Adds bulk to your diet without adding calories making you feel full (great for weight loss)

However, it is also important to know the differences between good fiber (soluble) and not so good (insoluble). If you are the type of person who reads labels, then you always want to check to see if it has soluble or insoluble fiber:

Soluble means the body can easily break it down. A good analogy would be that if you add water to it, it will dissolve (soluble).

Insoluble means it is hard to breakdown and wont dissolve as easily. This type of fiber can get stuck to your intestines.

Recent Study

Studies show that those with the highest intake of fiber have a significantly lower risk of dying of any cause. A recently published study by the National Cancer Institute that included almost 400,000 participants found that for every 10-gram increase in fiber intake, risk of death dropped 12% in men and 15% in women.

So why the sudden decrease? Because our digestion make sup 70% of our health. When our digestion system is so focused on the food it is breaking down, it can’t do other things allowing illness and disease to set it.

So make sure you get good “soluble” fiber in your system to keep things moving!

Do Not Donate To These Well-Known Charities

As the holidays are upon us, the donation game is big business and many charities are doing everything they can to try and get you to donate to them. And while it is great to support worthwhile charities, some of these organizations are known to pray on those who may not know better.

So many of us assume that because it is a charitable organization, that they must be doing good. In a world where greed does not exist, this would be true. Unfortunately, we still live in a world that comes from a fear-based mentality and feel that they need to manipulate people to get what they want.

We recently came across two organizations and they are the SPCA International and Disabled Veterans National Foundation.

The SPCA International is an organization that says it rescues animals from war torn countries. The Disabled Veterans National Foundation says it helps disabled veterans. Both are lies.

What these organizations have been caught doing is:

1. Pocketing monies that are donated.

2. Sending items as “help” that are useless and invaluable to those who they say they help.

However, we recently came across a report from CNN where they confront the head of the organization in a bold face lie where they found that they raised $27 million dollars and $23 million was funneled to their own private company!

Once again please note there is the ASPCA which is NOT associated with this organization. If you want to express your concern to the SPCA International, here is their Facebook page. You will notice they have removed their comment feed but you can still leave comments in their posts. Or you can send them an email using this form.

The Disabled Veterans National Foundation is another scam where they play off of the well-known and truster Disabled American Veterans name knowing that some people will confuse the two. This organization has raised over $55 million for veterans and $0 has supported veterans!

The Dangers Of Mixing Herbal Remedies With Prescriptions

In an ideal world, we would have no need to take prescription drugs. But for some of us, they help us tremendously. So the question is this: Is it safe to mix herbal remedies with over the counter or prescription drugs?

Answer: Yes & No

In a new study by Dr. Hsiang-Wen Lin from the College of Pharmacy, China Medical School, Dr. Wang was the co-author of a new study that explored the risks associated with mixing herbal supplements and prescribed or over the counter drugs.

Many people assume that because the supplements are natural that they do not have to tell their doctor they are taking them. While these supplements are natural and very beneficial, they do alter the chemistry of your body. Our bodies are a fragile eco-system and one must be cautious about what they introduce and mix. Certain substances do not blend well with each other and can wreak havoc.

A recent study performed by the International Journal of Clinical Practice combined 882 herb/dietary supplements and drugs to see what would happen and here were their findings:

  • Patients with cardiovascular or central nervous system conditions who are taking medications are especially at risk for potentially dangerous herb and drug interactions
  • The herbs and dietary supplement ingredients that have the greatest potential for causing negative interactions with drugs are calcium, echinacea, flaxseed, ginkgo, iron, magnesium, St. John’s wort, and yohimbe
  • Drugs that had the greatest number of reported interactions with herbs and dietary supplements were aspirin, digoxin, insulin, ticlopidine, and warfarin
  • Types of problems associated with combining herbs or dietary supplements with medications included abdominal pain, chest pain, headache, and mild to severe heart problems
  • Slightly more than 26 percent of the herb and drug interactions were major
  • More than 42 percent of the drug interactions were caused by the herb or dietary supplement changing how a drug was absorbed, metabolized, and eliminated from the body
  • Herbs and other botanical remedies were more likely to have reported drug interactions than were dietary supplements such as vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.

That being said, not all mixtures are bad. In fact some studies have shown that mixing ginseng while getting chemotherapy can be very beneficial.

Bottom Line

If you are going to be taking any type of drugs while taking herbal or natural supplements, consult your physician so that you know if they are safe to mix.
